As the opening batter of Pakistan's continuous era, he established himself as one of the best batsmen of his generation with his excellent technique and great patience.
A. Ali's score of 159 in one of the Test matches series against England in Birmingham in August 2016 led to him being hailed as one of Pakistan's finest batters.
In the last interview, (A. Ali) talked about his retirement: "The decision to retire from Test cricket is never easy, but after deep reflection, I have decided this is the right time for me."

But he quickly made his mark with the bat, becoming one of the nation's leading Test batters. He even achieved the rare feat of a triple century in Test cricket.

His notable cricketing career includes playing for Lahore Eagles in the Faysal BankT20 Cup 2012, Lahore Lions in the President's Cup and One Day Tournament 2013, and Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2016.
It was at Headingley in 2010 that he scored his first Test fifty in difficult batting conditions.

Test Career:-
A. Ali debuted on July 13, 2010, at Lord's.
He made his first century in 2010 against England in the United Arab Emirates after scoring ten fabulous fifties.
It was in 2016 when he recorded his most astonishing year, scoring over 1000 runs, including an unbeaten triple century against the West Indies.
His remarkable 205-run knock in an inning against Australia will always be remembered when Pakistan succeeded in the match while no other Pakistani batsman had reached at least 65 runs.
During the third Test against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi in 2017, he reached the milestone of 5000 runs in Test cricket history. This milestone made A. Ali was the eighth Pakistan cricketer to score 5000 runs in the white ball format.
